Kerry's comments are just too classic to ignore. Destabilizing governments (even democratic ones) whose interests did not align with the US -pretty much sums up US foreign policy - including its contemporaneous policy. Via Salon.

I suppose Kerry prefers assignation like the US did in Iran or Chile or perhaps illegally funding insurgencies to overthrow democracies in central America; He is looking back wistfully to those halcyon days of black bag covert jobs as opposed to the more recent overt military actions of the US invasion of Iraq. He now prefers drone warfare to direct invasion. How enlightened of him.
The West overplayed their hand with Ukraine, a vital Russian strategic alliance. A strong Russian response was predictable (think Georgia) and not anymore or less driven by self interest than US foreign policy.
